Police in Bauchi have disclosed that a 2-year old girl has been murdered and dumped in a Mosque in Ningi LGA of Bauchi State.
In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, said the deceased was left with signs of suspected rape.
He said a health official in the General Hospital, Ningi, confirmed that the baby had suffered severe injuries as result of penetration which led to her death.
According to an eyewitness, Malam Bala who is the muezzin of the mosque, said he arrived at the mosque around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday preparatory to Subh when he noticed a wrapped bundle abandoned within the mosque premises.
“I came for Subhi Adhan and saw the deceased wrapped and left within the mosque’s premises. I opened the wrapper and found she was already dead. I managed to call the prayer, and after the prayer, I reported the matter to the Imam,” Malam Bala said.
The police commissioner in the state, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed Ningi Divisional Police Officer to make extra efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
He also called on parents and guardians to ensure the safety of their children, not to allow them wander around the streets.
