USAID/HWM Project Donates Teaching Aids To Health Institutions In Bauchi

The USAID/Nigeria Health Workforce Management Activity (USAID/HWM), has donated assorted teaching aids to two health institutions in Bauchi State.

Mr Nasiru Sa’adu, the Project Coordinator, stated this at the presentation of the items to the state Ministry of Health, on Thursday in Bauchi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the benefitting schools are Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Sciences, Bauchi,  and Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Technology, Ningi.

Sa’adu said that the donated items would enhance learning process in the institutions which are  the bedrock for the training of health personnel in the state.

He said that the graduates of the institutions would be deployed to various health centers, adding  that quality training was paramount to the students.

Sa’adu said that a recent survey showed that only 193 of the 323 Primary Health Centers (PHCs)  have skilled birth attendants in the state.

“USAID/HWM is handing over 19 items to Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Sciences and 15 items for Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Technology, Ningi.

“The items include nursing training doll, pelvic placenta heart and kidney models, forceps delivery kits, projectors and computers among others,” he said.

The coordinator also said that a five-day capacity building exercise was conducted to teachers to strengthen pre-service training.

In his remarks, Prof. Oladosu Ojengbede, Director, Center for Population and Reproductive Health (CPRH), said that the items would enable the students to compete with their counterparts globally.

Ojengbede said that the two institutions were critical in producing health personnel in the state.

He commended the state ministry of health for its stride to achieve maximum development in the health sector.

While receiving the items, Dr Samaila Dahuwa, the Commissioner of Health, appreciated the contribution of USAID/HWM in the health sector in the state.

Dahuwa, represented by Mr Aliyu Babayo, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, said the ministry had directed fir the conduct of a survey across 323 PHCs in the state.

He said the survey was designed to enhance the operations of the facilities, adding that the present administration was committed to the recruitment of qualified personnel to enhance healthcare service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Rakiya Saleh, Provost, Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Sciences, commended the gesture.

She pledged to ensure effective utilisation of the items to achieve optimal results. (NAN)
