The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged youths in Gombe State to harness their digital skills for positive purposes rather than engaging in cybercrime.
Speaking during the Gombe Employability and Digital Skills Summit 2025 organised by the Young Leaders Network (YLN), EFCC’s zonal director, represented by a senior staff of the commission, John Loko, emphasised the importance of digital literacy for national development, saying it boosts efficiency and drives innovation.
He however warned participants against using these skills for illicit activities like cyber fraud popularly known as ‘Yahoo’.
Loko lamented the growing trend of youth’s involvement in cybercrime, citing the risks of jail terms and other severe consequences.
The EFCC, he said, was taking proactive steps, conducting sensitisation programmes to educate young people on the dangers of this path.
The Executive Director of the Young Leaders Network (YLN), Seun Justin Onarinde, said the summit was geared towards empowering Gombe youth with the skills they need to thrive in today’s digital world.
According to him, the Gombe Employability and Digital Skills Summit 2025 themed “Future of Work: Unlocking employability through digital skills”, aimed to inspire 180 participants to embrace digital skills to succeed.
He stated that the summit would focus on educating the participants on remote work, digital opportunities, and soft skills, making them more employable and ready for the changing job market.
“Empowering youth with digital skills is key to building a brighter future for Gombe and Nigeria,” he said.
He added that the initiative was a game-changer for Gombe youth, providing them with opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to nation-building.
