Varsity Workers Protest Non-Payment of Withheld Salaries

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (ATBU) chapter has on Friday protested the non-payment of their withheld five months salaries and arrears of allowances by the Federal Government.

The protesters who converged at the Yelwa campus of the University also accused the Government of not fulfilling the 2009 agreement it entered into with them.

Briefing journalists shortly after the protest, the ATBU NAAT chairman, Engineer Bashir Ibrahim Zwall expressed displeasure with the government over the withheld salaries of their members due to the strike that lasted five and a half months in 2022.

He noted that members of the union had only received one month’s worth of the withheld salaries in October, noting that the Government had failed to fulfil its promise.

Engineer Zwall however advised the national body of NAAT to call for nationwide protest and to follow with indefinite strike until their demands are made

The protesters were carrying placards bearing various inscriptions such as “pay us our entitlements”, “pay us our fifty percent arrest of 12”, “FG release our 50 billion earned allawonce” among others.
