War against smuggling: Customs embark on door to door campaign in Kwara

In an effort to nip in the bud, the menace of smuggling in the country, the Nigeria Customs service (NCS) has embarked on tour of all emirate councils in Kwara state.

The Public Relations Officer Customs Kwara Area Command, Chado Zakari who disclosed this in a press release issued to wikkiTimes said that the tour was part of the services’ resolve to sensitize border communities on the dangers of smuggling on the economy of Country.

He explained that the Customs Area Controller, Kwara Command, Compt. HB Ahmed fsi has taken tour of Emirate councils of Ilesha Baruba, Yashkira and Okuta axis of Baruten Local Government area of Kwara State.

According to the press release, “at the Emir’s Palace of Ilesha Baruba, Comptroller Ahmed acknowledged the critical role the traditional institutions can play especially in the area of sensitization and enlightenment of their subjects.

The custom’s PRO that the Comptroller informed the Emir that he was at his palace to formally brief him that the Kwara Command has been given autonomy to operate in the area.

He said that his principal was at the Emir’s palace to equally present himself to the Emir as the pioneer Customs area controller of Kwara Command.

The Controller who assured of his command’s determination to carryout intensive enlightenment campaigns against smuggling said most of those who engage in smuggling never see it as a crime.

He said that the brain behind closure of the country’s borders was to encourage local farming, secure national border and to enable neighboring countries obey the ECOWAS protocol.

While responding, the Emir of Ilesha Baruba, Professor Halidu Abubakar Derikureku IIII pledged to support the Controller to succeed, adding that, smuggling is never a good thing to be encouraged.
