Residents of Katanga, the headquarters of Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State, have voiced their frustrations over prolonged power outages that have persisted for several months.
The power crisis has hindered economic activities and stifled domestic activities, particularly on issues that rely on electricity.
Najeeb Abdullahi, a resident, expressed his despair to this outlet, stating that they have lost hope of having a stable power supply due to the local authorities’ apparent neglect.
Najeeb said they have made numerous complaints about the power situation, but nothing has changed. The resident, said, they have already resigned themselves to the situation, leaving it to the will of God.
He explained that the area has been without electricity for nearly eight months, severely impacting the quality of life and economic progress.
Noted that Power lines and poles have fallen in various places, and despite politicians’ promises to address the issue, no action has been taken.
He appealed to the Bauchi State Governor to address the power crisis in Warji Local Government Area.
Another resident of Katanga Warji Fateema Nasallah, lamented that they have become accustomed to living without electricity, receiving power only occasionally, especially outside the rainy season.
Government Reacts
Responding to inquiries from our correspondent, the Commissioner for Power Science, and Technology, Hon. Modibbo U.A. Ahmed, stated that they were unaware of the local government’s dire situation.
Also, a director in the ministry, Engineer Aminu Ibrahim Muhammad, confirmed that they had visited Warji Local Government for repairs but found that the work had already been contracted out. Consequently, they decided not to interfere with the ongoing project.
He assured that they would follow up on the contracted work to assess its progress and ensure the continuation of repairs.
It could be recalled that Hon. Ahmed had authoritatively on 15th July during a press briefing claims to have fixed and restored power supply to all the 20 LGAs.
The Commissioner said they repaired facilities, rehabilitated vandalized power lines and installed transformers.
