The trios of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and a former Senate President Abubakar Bokula Saraki have resolved to shop for a consensus presidential candidate for PDP ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
They disclosed this to reporters on Sunday shortly after a two hours closed-door meeting at Ramat House Government House Bauchi.
Addressing reporters on behalf of the two governors, Senator Saraki said such a decision is tasking but promises to be rewarding putting the interest of Nigeria and the PDP above their personal interests of all of them.
He said their decision was informed by the current unfavourable economic realities tenable in Nigeria which made life difficult for most average Nigerians.
Senator Saraki said the 2023 general elections should never be seen as a window for politicians in the country to consolidate on their self-centred gains but hold a firm grip on how to secure a brighter future for Nigerians.
He said they will present their resolution to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, hoping to finalise a decision about a consensus candidate for the PDP.
Senator Saraki said all of them of Northern Nigerian extraction embodied all it takes to lead Nigeria.
“This is an initiative of the three of us after noticing what is happening in the country, the hardship and cost of living out people are going through and also looking ahead toward 2023 general elections.
“It is very clear that PDP is the only viable option to rescue this country today. And, as such, key stakeholders of this party sit down and discuss the best strategy going forward.
“We believe that three of us working together harmoniously and committed with great energy, there is hope for this country. We appreciate that the three of us have shown aspirations to lead this country but we also came to realized that we are all capable and competent.
“We also resolve to come up with a way that will ensure a consensus arrangement will come among us,” he said.
WikkiTimes recalls that both Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Atiku Abubakar and Senator Bukola Saraki picked up PDP presidential expression of interest forms.
