Bauchi State Government has set a two year target to reduce by 90% illiteracy among people of the state, especially children.
The state government has enrolled sixty master trainers , ten coordinators, ten supporting staff as well as two hundred and forty six school supporting officers SSOs for a three day training on the 2019 Better Education Service Delivery for All BESDA, which is being supported by World Bank.
The training is currently on going in five local governments of Alkaleri, Gamawa, Ganjuwa, Katagum and Itas Gadau which have the highest number of out of school children in the state.
Declaring the training open, the Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Dr. Abubakar Surunbai Sheikh Dahiru called on the participants to be committed for the successful implementation of the programme.
Dr. Abubakar Surunbai who was represented bythe Board’s Permanent Commissioner Two Alhaji Zakari Ibrahim said the workshopis geared toward cascading the training to teachers and Head Teachers of theaffected local government for improved literacy at early grade in the basiceducation sub sector.
He commended the effort and contribution of development partner toward the improvement of basic education in the state.
Earlier the State Coordinator BESDAS Alhaji Abubakar Mansur Abdu said the step down training is targeting a total of three thousand three hundred and eighty two teachers in the five out of nine BESDA benefiting local government areas.
Alhaji Abubakar Mansur Abdu who is also the Permanent Secretary Bauchi SUBEB warned the participants of laxity as only those that have shown commitment would be retained in the programme.
In separate remarks, the SUBEB Director social Mobilisation Idi Musa Ningi and Training Desk Officer of the Board Isa Garba Ningi said the workshop will build the capacity of basic education teachers and managers on the new teaching and learning techniques.
Also speaking one of the facilitators and lecturer with Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education Kangere said it is a continuation of NEI’s early Grade Reading Project which has been running for the past three years.
In an interview with Radio Nigeria, a Master Trainer and Participant Aishatu Aliyu said the training is a welcome development especially the first three years learning activity of the child.
