West Africa Classics: Ghanaian arm wrestler boasts of victory

Tahiru Haruna, a Ghanaian arm wrestler, has expressed readiness to outshine his opponents at the maiden West Africa Arm Wrestling Classics, tagged “Lagos 2019”.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the one-day event will hold on Saturday at the Rowe Park Sports Centre in Yaba, Lagos.

Haruna, who won two gold medals at the 8th Africa Arm Wrestling Championships held in Lagos in 2017, told News Agency of Nigria on telephone on Tuesday that he had prepared adequately well for the task ahead.

“My country should expect nothing less from me as I represent it alongside other Ghanaian arm wrestlers in the West Africa classics.

“I am fully prepared to destroy my opponents on the table and this is what I love doing.

“My teammates are also in top form, so Ghanaians should expect the best from us,’’ the 91kg plus category athlete boasted.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that Haruna was among the Ghanaian team that won 31 gold, 32 silver and 25 bronze medals at the 9th Africa Arm wrestling Championships hosted by Ghana in 2018.

No fewer than 60 athletes from other West Africa countries would be participating in the classics alongside Nigerian athletes.

News Agency of Nigeria again reports that participants will, at the event, compete in five male and female categories respectively.
