World Health Organization (WHO) has called on Tafawa Balewa Local Government Council to sustain efforts towards ensuring that Nigeria is certified Polio free.
A cluster consultant from the WHO, Malam Hassan Gunda made the call when he paid an advocacy visit to the Caretaker Chairman in his office yesterday.
Malam Hassan Gunda observed that appreciable achievements have been made in the last three years to actualize the Verification of Nigeria as a polio free country, stressing that the dream can only become true if the efforts are being sustained.
According to him the country has been battling the disease from 1999 to date until in the last three years that the country has not recorded a single case of the virus.
“By 30th June, this year, if all things being well, Nigeria will be certified Polio free”. He hinted.
The cluster consultant informed the Caretaker Chairman that “any moment from now, teams of monitors from the WHO African Regional Office will visit Tafawa Balewa to ascertain the genuineness of the report, thereby making the way for the dream to come true.
He therefore, enjoined the Local Government to sustain efforts towards achieving the set goal.
Responding, the Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government, Barrister Kefas Magaji expressed delight over the development and assured that the Local Government is ready to give whatever support to actualize the dream.
He said that personnel of the LG’s Primary healthcare department are well positioned to respond to any emerging healthcare service.
