Nigerians have realized that most of the politicians are self-centered personalities whose membership with any Political party is based on personal needs and not the interest of the electorate. That is why citizens are not worried with the attitude of those defecting from one political party to another.
In most cases, the defectors are citing issues of bad governance, non fulfillment of campaign promises or marginalization of their constituents as the reasons for the defection, but none of these should be regarded as valid excuse in the case of those defecting from Peoples Democratic Party PDP to opposition All Progressive Congress APC in Bauchi state.
What the citizens are after is the ability of a Political Office Holder to deliver dividends of democracy promised during electioneering campaigns to guarantee his re-election. Such performance would also earn him popularity and respect in the eyes of citizens.
Haven said this, the recent refection of some political actors to APC in Bauchi state can be described  as uncall for while the reasons given can also be seen baseless as their actions are coming at a time that people of Bauchi state are convinced with the commitment shown by Governor Bala Muhammad’s led administration to ensure formulation and full implementation of policies and Programmes aimed to taking the state to greater height.
That is why the questions of what informed the decision of former speaker Yakubu Dogara, senator Hamma Misau, Shitu Zaki and Salisu Zakari Ningi to defect to the opposition APC is generating different answers from well meaning individuals.
While others viewed the move as an attempt to secure a better position at the national level, others believed that they understood that Bala Muhammad’s leadership style may not allow the public fund to be use in servicing the interests of highly placed individuals at the detriment of the common man.
The unprecedented ongoing and completed projects by governor Bala Muhammad in various aspects of infrastructure, health, education, potable water supply, agricultural, youth and women empowerment among others are enough to attract massive votes for the governor’s second term even without their contributions.
Bauchi state has an obvious peculiar political situation that allows prosperity to determine the faith of candidates in any elective positions.
Non performance and lackadaisical attitude towards addressing issues of public importance may not be unconnected to the reason for unseating the incumbent Governor Muhammad Abubakar despite enjoying the support of the two former governors ( Ahmad Mu’azu and Malam Isa Yuguda) alongside some religious and traditional rulers. Intimidations and vote buying before, during and after the election are not being regarded as factors to guarantee the victory of any candidate in Bauchi state.
One of the reasons that would testify the unique nature of the state’s politics was the 1999 Gubernatorial election that saw Alh Ahmad Adamu Mu’azu as the executive Governor of the state. At that time a substantial number of citizens prepared late Adamu Tafawa Balewa (Ajiyan Bauchi) to govern the state but the excellent performance of Mu’azu’s led administration in his first four years guaranteed his return in 2003 in view of the Peoples oriented projects executed across the state.
It is the same story during the administration of Malam Isa Yuguda who successfully finished eight years in office as a result of what people described as generosity and good governance.
With the extraordinary performance of the indefatigable Governor Bala Muhammad where the state began to wear a new look in less two years of his government, am beginning to see the light at the end of tunnel.
This translate the popular saying that “a good one term deserves another”
