A social group in Gombe state known as the ‘Great Founder Association’ has called on the Gombe state government to honour the late head of state General Sani Abacha for creating Gombe state.
The founder of the organization Comrade Maishanu Abubakar Tanimu made this call in a chat with newsmen in Gombe on Monday.
He said Gombe state was created on October 1st 1996 during the regime of the late Sani Abacha opining that the government of the state should reciprocate by immortalizing the late head of state.
According to him, the government could immortalize Abacha by renaming one of its important public facilities such as the Gombe International Airport, State Specialist Hospital or any major road after him.
He lamented that while Gombe celebrated its 25th anniversary on October 1st this year, nothing was done to honour its founder or his surviving wife Hajiya Maryam Abacha.
“Let me use this medium to call on governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to consider this idea of naming some government edifices after late General Sani Abacha. This is because if Abacha had not given Gombe a state, he would not have been able to be executing all these development projects he embarks on in the state.
“Abacha is a father of Gombe and is supposed to be remembered at all commemoration events like independence days or democracy days or to set aside a special day for commemoration as Abacha day. By so doing, Gombe will please the family of late Sani Abacha”. He asserted.
