Woman Allegedly Steals Baby During Naming Ceremony in Nasarawa

Police in Nasarawa State have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing a seven-day-old baby during a naming ceremony in Keffi, LGA.

According to Ramhan Nansel, spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, Aliyu was apprehended behind the INEC office in Keffi on Saturday.

“On September 28, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, police operatives from the Keffi Division arrested Khadija Aliyu for stealing a seven-day-old baby girl during the naming ceremony,” Nansel stated.

He explained that the suspect had been pretending to be pregnant and managed to sneak into the house during the event.

“While the event was ongoing, she snuck into the house, took the baby that was laid down to sleep, concealed the child behind her back, covered her with a veil, and escaped before being apprehended,” he added.

In a separate incident, the police also arrested an ex-convict for the alleged theft of three motorcycles in Keffi town.

Nansel reported that the suspect, Hussaini Mohammed, a resident behind the stadium in Keffi and a recent prison releasee, was apprehended by operatives from the Anguwan Lambu Division, who found three stolen motorcycles in his possession.

“During the investigation, three motorcycles believed to be stolen were recovered as evidence,” Nansel noted.
