Women’s participation in politics: Bauchi NGO trains 25 women

A Bauchi based NGO, Fahimta women and youth development initiative in collaboration with Actionaid with support from Canada had trained 25 women from 3 LGAs in Bauchi State, aimed at encouraging women’s participation in politics.

The women drawn from Alkaleri, Bauchi and Giade were trained on global best practices that would embolden their ability to make relevance in governance.

The executive director of Fahimta, Hajiya Maryam Garba represented by Dinah Daniel explained that, the essence of the training was to ginger women to participate actively in politics.

Hajiya Maryam Garba noted that women were relegated in the political process of the country, hence, the need for the participants to make use of the platform to acquire skills, knowledge and the confidence to compete favorably with their male counterparts.

“It is discouraging, how women were relegated to the background at all levels and men keep dominating the political space”.

The ED further charged the participants to be attentive in order to acquaint themselves with requisite knowledge and skills on how to participate in politics.

In her presentation, one of the resource persons at the event, Mrs Merry kefas Magaji challenged women to acquire western education, engage in any viable venture, build relationships among others before achieving success in their political struggles.

Mrs Kefas Magaji who describe women as the backbone of any political success story, appealed for unity among women folk for them to remain relevant in the scheme of things.

Some of the participants interviewed commended Fahimta women and their sponsors for given them the opportunity to participate during the training.
