Workers in Bauchi tertiary educational institutions suspend planned strike over BVN, other issues

The Joint Action committee of Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions of higher educational institutions in Bauchi State has suspended the one week ultimatum issued to the state government on the ongoing BVN verification and other issues peculiar to them.

 In a statement by the General Secretary of the Committee Comrade Abubakar Ahmed says the decision was reached after a meeting chaired by the state Head of Civil Service and attended by members of the Joint Action Committee as well as other stakeholders.

 It explained that meeting resolved that all the affected members will be paid their October salary after screening while yearly increment will henceforth be automatic when records of the staff were updated.

The statement adds that implementation of promotion and steps placement will be effected within three weeks and that government would be advised to consider appointment of Heads of Tertiary Institutions from within the sector.
