Workers seal National Assembly, Demand improved Welfare

Presiding officers of the National Assembly were today blocked from gaining access to the Chambers by members of  Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN.
The Workers’ Association said it was picketing the Leadership of the National Assembly for deliberate refusal to address pending issues concerning their welfare.


The National President of PASAN,Comrade Bala Hadi listed some of the issues to include non-payment of Legislative Salary structure, non- release of promotion letters to those who had passed the required examinations and lack of training of staff as budgeted for.
Also speaking, the President of the National Assembly branch of PASAN,Comrade Nature Musa remarked that staff who retired from Service had their jobs given to Consultants at the detriment of qualified staffers who needed to be promoted to the vacant positions.
The Staff who were peaceful in their protest prevented the Deputy Senate President from either addressing them or allowing him access to the Senate Chambers.

Meanwhile, a statement from the office of the Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Sani Omolori maintained that the Federal Ministry of Finance was responsible for non- release of money needed for the payment of the wages demanded by PASAN. (RNA)
