Yellow Fever: Following WikkiTimes report, Bauchi Gov’t procures 600,000 doses for vaccination in Ningi

Bauchi State Government says it has requested about six hundred thousand doses of Yellow fever vaccine from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency to cover Ningi local government area, where suspected cases of the disease were recorded.

WikkiTimes had early this week exclusively reported suspected cases of yellow fever in Tipchi ward of Ningi local government area where six people died.

The Executive chairman of the agency Dr Rilwanu Muhammad who gave this indication during a press briefing held in his office, also confirmed the death of one person from the disease in the area.

Dr Rilwanu Muhammad explained that in response to the media report, the agency deployed a team of experts known as Rapid Response to examine the situation.

The team according to Dr Muhammad reported four deaths, saying that one of them was confirmed to have died from yellow fever.

He said the remaining three samples were taken and sent to infectious laboratory in Dakar, Senegal for confirmation.

Dr Rilwanu Muhammad reiterated government commitment towards addressing the problem head on.

The executive chairman claimed that out of the two hundred and twenty four suspected cases of yellow fever virus recorded in the last two months in twelve local government areas of the state only twenty nine were confirmed positive.
