Yobe Police nab 16 suspected armed robbers, 10 kidnappers

Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic bedevilling the world, the Police in Yobe have not relented in checkmating criminal acts, as it disclosed that 16 persons suspected to be armed robbers have been nabbed in the state.

The Police Commissioner in the State, Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar made this known while parading the suspects before newsmen on Tuesday at the command headquarters.

Others paraded by the CP include 10 suspects involved in Kidnapping and their associate female syndicate as well as two notorious fraudsters.

A press release sent to WikkiTimes by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim indicated that two AK 47 Rifles, one re-branded pump action gun, three dane funs and several rounds of live ammunition of difference caliber were recovered as exhibited.

Some of the exhibits according to Abdulkarim are cutlasses, sledge hammers, swords and house breaking and burglary implements, one Honda accord V6 and unspecified number of property including foreign currency and several items of high value.

CP Abubakar said that the press briefing was part of an avenue to showcase the achievements made by the police in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

The Police chief while commending his men for the successful reduction of certain criminal activities, such as: farmers/herders clashes, Rape, Unnatural offenses and other minor crimes said armed robbery, burglary , kidnapping and theft has been on a slight increase.

“It is however pertinent to note that, in the first quarter of the year 2020, the Command arraigned over thirty (30) suspects to court for prosecution”. The CP pointed out.

According to him, while some of the suspects were convicted, others are undergoing trial, adding that about 25 case files are presently before the state ministry of Justice for Vetting and Legal advice.

CP Abubakar who assured the people of Yobe adequate response and necessary action from the police appealed to them to remain vigilant and report all criminal activities to the nearest Police Station.
