The Chairman Sheikh Dahiru UsmanBauchi Foundation Alhaji Ibrahim Sheikh Dahiru has asked the Federal Government
to find genuine alternative, before going ahead with its intention to banAlmajiri system of education in the country over security concerns.Ibrahim Sheik Dahiru Stated this inBauchi while reacting to the Statement credited to the National SecurityAdviser Babangana Mungono published in national dailies, which said “the FGN isconsidering proscribing the Almajiri system to address the rising insecurity inthe country”.
He said “the Almajiri system ofeducation has been in the country for more than 1000 years and was never athreat to security. The pupils’ main preoccupation is learning recitation andmemorizing of the Holy Qur’an. They are not criminals they are the ones prayingfor peace and stability in the country”.
Ibrahim argued that of thesuspected criminals being arrested by security agents like kidnappers, armedrobbers and insurgents none of them was an Almajiri
According to him Sheik Dahiru BauchiFoundation so far has over 200 Schools in different parts of the country wherestudents memorize the holy the Holy Qur’an without begging. The schools he saidhave graduated students, many of whomhave moved further to acquire first degrees, masters and PhDs.
He recalled that a meeting on howto improve the Tsangaya education was held with relevant stakeholders such the UniversalBasic Education Board, UNICEF and Islamic development Bank in attendance.
During the meeting according tohim, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi gave useful advice that will improve the system where he requested the Federal Government toestablish agency for Almajiri education, and to allow people that have direct link with Tsangaya Schools to headthe commission.
“He equally advised the government to help genuine stakeholders of Almajiri education with soft loan on agriculture to enable them produce the food they will eat with their pupils”.
