WikkiTimes reports that Gov. Mohammed had made critical remarks on the president for insisting on Tax Reforms.

In a statement shared on his X account, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on media, said the comments were inappropriate and unbefitting of a state governor, urging the governor to focus on governance and collaboration rather than divisive rhetoric.

Governor Mohammed had earlier declared that the tax reform bill currently being considered by the National Assembly is targeted against Northern Nigeria.

He stressed that the Tax Reform Bill was aimed at favouring just a section of the Country and short-changing Northern Nigeria, threatening that “we would show our true colour, we will fight for it.”

Dare pointed out that Bauchi has received over N144 billion in federal allocations, including N2 billion for food security and additional funds from fuel subsidy removal compensation.

Yet, he argued, the state continues to face severe developmental challenges and high poverty rates.

“Rather than issuing threats, his energy might be better directed toward implementing effective poverty alleviation programs and ensuring transparent utilization of these federal resources,” Dare stated.

The special adviser highlighted the benefits of the Tax Reform Act, such as streamlined taxation and support for small businesses and agriculture, urging Governor Mohammed to leverage these resources for Bauchi’s progress.

Dare further emphasized that such rhetoric does not reflect the aspirations of Northern Nigeria, which seeks unity and constructive engagement with the Federal Government to address the nation’s challenges.
