Youths Are Key Drivers of Digital Economy- Amb. Tuggar

Ambassador Yusuf Maitam Tuggar, Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Germany has described youths as the engine room for the success of a sound digital economy.

He said that Nigerian youths are well equipped to captain the nation’s vessel for economic transformation and diversification from an oil-driven economy to a multi-sector economy.

Ambassador Tuggar stated this at the Public Lecture and launching of a magazine organised by the final year students of the Department of Mathematical Science in partnership with the Nigeria Association of Computing Students of the Abubakar Tafawabalewa University Bauchi, ATBU.

He said that the 21st-century world is one driven by mathematical “innovation and our cyber world. Computers and mobile phones run on the eponymous Algorithms.”

He said that mathematical science is critical to human existence and the progress of Nigeria as a whole adding that youths are the effective catalysts needed to help Nigeria consolidate on its efforts to enshrine a robust digital economy thereby creating opportunities for all citizens.

Ambassador Tuggar said that with the replica of President Buhari’s visionary leadership style at all levels of governance in the country, support and encouragement, much can be achieved.

“An indication of what can be achieved with visionary and transformational leadership on the part of government is the creation of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System in 1994, a home-grown world-class infrastructure that is today transforming e-commerce and inspiring business growth and speed in Nigeria,” he recalled.

He said that Bauchi State stands a chance to drive home many benefits of a digital economy given its abundant talented human capital base coupled with the presence of ATBU, a technology-oriented university.

Ambassador Tuggar said that with the necessary government support and encouragement, “ATBU will become the engine room for Bauchi State’s and Nigeria’s leapfrogging development.”
