Zaar Land: Committee Recommends “The Whole Of Bogoro Local Government” As Sayawa Chiefdom

The Committee set up by the Bauchi State Government to come up with recommendations for the creation of Zaar Chiefdom for Sayawa community in Bauchi State has presented its report to Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, recommending the whole of Bogoro to constitute part of Sayawa Chiefdom.

Presenting the report at Government House Bauchi, the Chairman of the Committee, Amb. Jibrin Dada Chinade said that the committee was set up to find a lasting solution to the lingering problem of the creation of Sayawa Chiefdom and the need to bring peace to Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas of the state.

He said that the Committee has recommended that the proposed Zaar Chiefdom should comprise the whole of Bogoro Local Government area with the provision that non Sayawa communities within the two Local Governments would be allowed to decide whether to be part of the Chiefdom or not through a referendum to be conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission.

He explained that the committee was mandated to review the earlier reports of Justice Babalakn, Shehu Awak and Justice Bala Umar on the creation of Sayawa Chiefdom set up by the Governor on 17th December 2021.

Amb. Jibrin said the committee made the same recommendations as the previous reports to address the agitation for self-determination by the Sayawa community and to bring lasting peace in the area.

“Having observed that all the previous Committees of Justice Babalakin, Shehu Awak and Justice Bala Umar and General Sabo recommended the creation of Sayawa chiefdom, the Committee has also made the same recommendation to address the agitation for self-determination by the Sayawa and to bring lasting peace in the Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro axis”

Amb. Chinade thanked Governor Bala for giving them the opportunity, hoping that their recommendations would be useful in resolving the contentious issues that have militated against the creation of the Chiefdom.

In his remark, Governor Bala recalled that the failure of the attempts by successive administrations in the State to create the Chiefdom prompted him to set up the Committee to further investigate and come up with recommendations that would be acceptable to all stakeholders.

He assured the people of the state that the State Executive Council will study the report and consider it with a view to implementing its recommendations.

“Let me assure the Committee and indeed the good people of Bauchi State that the Committee’s report would be carefully studied by the Government with a view to implementing the recommendations.
