Zakat : Hadejia Emirate distributes 346 bags of grains to 200 less-privileged in Jigawa

The Hadejia Emirate Council Zakat Committee has commenced the distribution of 346 bags of assorted grains worth N1.9 million to 200 less-privileged in Auyo Local Government Area of Jigawa.

Zakat is a form of charity or alms- giving which is considered as a religious obligation in Islam.

The Spokesman of the Council, Alhaji Sani Adamu, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Auyo on Saturday.

He said the committee’s chairman, Alhaji Abdulwahab Abdulfatah, who was represented by the Chief Imam of Hadejia, Sheikh Yusuf Abdulrahman, inaugurated the distribution on Thursday, in Tsidir.

Adamu said the grains, which included rice, guinea-corn and millet were distributed to the needy drawn from the 10 wards in the council.

He said that the wards are; Auyakayi, Auyo, Ayama, Ayan, Gamafoi, Gamsarka, Gatafa, Kafur, Unik and Tsidir.

He called on large scale farmers and wealthy individuals in the area to ensure they give out of zakat regularly.

NAN reports that zakat, which is one of the five pillars of Islam, is also paid in cash and on certain number of livestock.

It is obligatory for every Muslim who is financially buoyant to pay zakat to the needy to purify his wealth and seek blessings from Allah.
