The peace initiative brokered by Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state has rescued more than 100 abductees including foreign nationals from Niger Republic.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the Governor’s media aide, Zailani Bappa said the initiative which houses Yansakai militia groups mostly Hausas and armed bandits has started yielding positive results.
“Apart from the Fifty Nine (59) Captives rescued in less than 6 days in Maru, Shinkafi and Kaura Namoda local government Areas, On 9th July, 2019, the Governor also facilitated the release of 14 Persons kidnapped for over 7 months and have been in captivity at Rukudawa village in Zurmi Local government”, the statement read in part.
The statement added that on the July,10, another 12 kidnapped victims who hail from Sokoto state were successfully rescued from their captors in shinkafi local government and were handed over to the sokoto state Deputy Governor at the Zamfara State government House, Gusau.
“Similarly, eight more persons who comprises men, women and children were handed over to the police by their captors. “The victims are indigenes of Fankiyo, Tasa and kachi kaidai in Maru local government. “Also on the date, another Four persons were rescued in Shinkafi LGA respectively.”
“With this development, more than 100 persons have been successfully rescued through the ongoing peace and reconciliation process in the state.”
The state government pledges more efforts to sustain the peace initiative.
Zamfara state has been embroiled in arm banditry that led to several loss of lives and property worth billions of naira.
