Zamfara police debunk rumors of attack by bandits

Zamfara state police command has debunked the rumors of an attack that allegedly led to the adjournment of PDP presidential candidate’s tribunal in Abuja.

The Police Public relations Officer,  SP mohamed Shehu in a statement issued to press in Gusau, said there was no any attack by bandits on anyone on any highway in the state.

SP Shehu said criminal activities in Zamfara have been downsized to 98 percent since the inception of the ongoing peace and dialogue initiative in the state.

The command expressed dismay over the publication on some national dailies on which allegedly said Atiku’s witnesses were attacked by bandits on their way from Zamfara to Abuja, a situation that forced them to flee into the bush.

The statement refuted the entire story, describing it as “misleading and a calculated attempt to undermine the current effort of both the state government and the police to bring lasting peace for social and economic development in the state.”

The statement also appealed to media organizations to verify their information before publication.

It would be recalled that, the police command had in recent weeks, rescued about 100 persons who were kidnapped and held in captivity for months.
