COVID-19: Bauchi NUJ postpones election to complement govt. measures

The electoral committee for the Bauchi state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced the indefinite suspension of its election earlier slated for Wednesday 22nd of Aprill, 2020.

of the committee, Umar Shira and Obed Hassan indicated that the decision wastaken to supporting the current efforts of containing Covid-19 pandemic thathas become a serious issue of concern globally.

“The electoral committee of the Nigeria Union ofJournalists (NUJ) Bauchi 2020 wishes to convey decision of the NationalSecretariat of the union to put on hold the April 22nd scheduled election tillfurther notice”. The release reads.

It further urged all members to await further directivesregarding the conduct of the election, assuring that the process would beconcluded once the situation in the country improves.

The committee assured all contestants that the pre-votingprocesses completed will be treated as it is, so that only election will holdin a new date to be decided by the national secretariat.

They asked members of the union to continue to support the governmentand health personnel in dealing with the situation by being more supportive inthe area of awareness creation and public education on the pandemic.
