Decaying Abandoned Body Discomforts Makurdi Residents

A yet-to-be-identified body of a woman dumped in the open is discomforting residents of Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.

The decaying body was spotted on Monday when WikkiTimes visited the Wurukrm roundabout where it is lying in the capital city.

A trader who sells water around the area and preferred to be identified as Adeyemo told WikkiTimes the body has been there “since last Thursday.”

“It was last week that we discovered the body, though it has been difficult to identify the deceased, a few persons suggest that she was a mentally-ill person,” she said. 

Adeyomo claimed her children had reported the matter to the police, but they are yet to evacuate the body.

A resident of the area, Sunday Abu corroborated Adeyomo, saying the residents were expecting the police or task force officials to come and pick up the body for burial.

He said the decaying body has been discomforting the residents as its smell took over the area.

WikkiTimes understands that the case of abandoned bodies in some parts of Markurdi is rampant, but Sunday said that was the first such an incident would be experienced in Wurukrm.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Police Command, Catherine Anene, could not be reached for comments as she neither picks nor returns calls. At press time, a text sent to her had not been responded to.
