The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate arrested 19 students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, for alleged internet fraud.
The commission announced on its X (formerly Twitter) on Friday that suspected fraudsters were arrested during an operation in Lapai town of the State
“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Directorate have arrested 19 suspected internet fraudsters in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, comprising 18 males and one female”.
“They were arrested on Friday, September 19, 2025 following credible information that linked them to fraudulent internet activities”, the statement reads.
The anti graft agency recovered a Honda Civic car, 33 mobile phones, five laptop computers, one peak power generating set, three bluetooth speakers, a white calabash and other fetish items.
“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded”, the statement further added.
According to a discrete source within the community, the operatives stormed the students’ lodge around 3: 56am midnight.
“My friend whom they raided their house phoned me that their house was invaded by the commission including Khairat 3 lodge”, he told WikkiTimes.
“One suspected student ran away after the invasion and his girlfriend was in his room. Then EFCC seized her credential and told her to provide her boyfriend before retrieving her document”, he added.
