While the ministerial nominee from Katsina State, Hannatu Musawa, wept over her poor family background as she appeared before the senate for screening, yesterday, the senators pacified her, chanting “It’s okay.”
Musawa, a lawyer, is currently the adviser on culture and entertainment economy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to PREMIUM TIMES.
She was among the 28 Nigerians nominated by President Bola Tinubu as ministers last Thursday. She was the ninth nominee screened by the upper chamber on Tuesday.

When Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, asked her to introduce herself and summarise her resume, Hannatu began by narrating her family background, her upbringing and at a point started shedding tears.
Hannatu explained she came from a poor family struggling to survive but that her father, Musa Musawa, a politician, ensured she got the desired Western education.
“I come from a family that struggles to make ends meet. My father sells ‘goro’ (Kolanut) to send me to school,” she said. “My greatest regret is that my father is not here to witness her daughter’s screening for a ministerial position,” she said while cleaning her eyes with a handkerchief.”
She further explained that she started her political career with the Buhari Foundation in 2022.

As the senators pacified her, their leader Akpabio, stopped her from continuing with her story. He told her she did not need to read an address because she was “not addressing the UN.”
He reminded her that she was expected just to summarise her resume.
But Elisha Abbo, a senator for Adamawa North interjected, commending Tinubu for nominating seven women as ministers.
He, however, pleaded that Hannatu be allowed to take a bow and go. Kawu Sumaila, a senator for Kano South seconded Abbo’s pleas.
Akpabio then put it to vote, and the senators voted in support of Hannatu. Afterwards, Hannatu, who was deputy spokesperson of the APC Campaign Council, took a bow and left.
