The Kaduna State House of Assembly passed a bill on Wednesday to establish the Kaduna State Commission for Religious Affairs Law 2025, aimed at promoting peace in the state.
The bill was passed after scaling third reading following a report presented by the Chairman, House Committee on Inter-faith, Nazeer Abubakar and the adoption of the report by the house.
Speaking shortly after the passage of the bill, Abubakar, who is also the member representing Kawo Constituency described the legislation as timely and historic.
He explained that the bill, which originated as an executive proposal from Gov. Uba Sani, was meticulously reviewed by the assembly before its passage.
“This bill is an executive bill, and I must commend Gov. Uba Sani for bringing it to the house, as well as the Honourable Speaker, Yusuf Dahiru, for his leadership and commitment throughout the process,” Abubukar said.
He said that the commission would serve as a unifying platform to bring all religious groups under one umbrella, aimed at fostering dialogue, understanding, and harmony among different faith communities.
According to him, establishing the commission would help reduce tension and conflicts among religious groups by promoting dialogue and mutual respect, adding that it was a significant step toward peace and inclusivity in aduna state .
“Before the bill came to the assembly, His Excellency formed a committee of learned individuals from both major religions who carefully reviewed and refined it.
” Even after reaching the assembly, it took us about six months of consultations, reviews, and amendments to ensure that no religious practice would be undermined,” Abubukar explained.
He emphasised that the commission would not only promote harmony but also serve as a bridge between the government and religious institutions, creating channels for cooperation and support for the less privileged across faiths.
Abubakar added that the commission was the first of its kind which would help streamline interactions between government and religious bodies and foster unity among all people of faith inthe state.
Earlier, a bill to establish the Kaduna State Agricultural Development Fund for the purpose of providing funding for agricultural development in the state and for related matters 2025 was also passed.
