The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has solicited the cooperation and collaboration of Gombe State Government for a successful operation in the state and the region.
Maj-Gen. Paul Tarfa (rtd), Chairman of the Commission, made the plea during the visit of Commission’s Governing Board to state governor, Inuwa Yahaya, in Gombe on Thursday.
He said the commission was ready to commence work at it’s headquarter in Maiduguri and plannedd to establish state office in Gombe and other states in the region.
“Gombe State is critical stakeholder in the region, currently hosting a lot of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs ) in the host communities.
“We are soliciting your cooperation and collaboration to start the operation ahead of us.
“To seek for premises on which we should establish our office, either by donation or peice of land on which we would erect our office, take off facilities and assets,” he stated.
He further expressed the Commission readiness to key into state government’s policy for the development of the state and the region.
In his remarks, Gov. Yahaya thanked the Commission for the visit and seeing things for themselves.
He assured that government would provide all things that were needed for the Commission to commence it’s operation.
He said the state was also affected by insurgency and it’s toll on the socioeconomic development of the state.
According to him, 80 per cent of the people in the state were leaving in abject poverty because of the effect of Boko Haram insurgency, adding that some IDPs  from neighbouring states had settled  in the state.
