Police Arrest Fleeing Convict in Borno

The police in Borno state have arrested a fleeing convict from Maiduguri Medium Custodial Centre, who escaped the facility during recent flooding in the state.

The 28-year-old Kyari Kur (aka Henry), who has been convicted for criminal conspiracy and theft escaped in September when the fences of the facility were destroyed by the flood that wreak havoc in Maiduguri city.

Confirming his re-arrest, Nahum Kenneth Daso, the spokesperson of the command, said Kur was arrested in Gubio town following intelligence information about his whereabout.

“Kyari Kur was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy and theft at the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri. Unfortunately, he escaped due to the devastating flood incident in September 2024, which collapsed the fence”.

“On October 10, 2024, police surveillance at Gubio divisional headquarters received a credible tip-off that Kur was sighted in Gubio town. Swiftly responding to the information, the police apprehended Kur”, he said.

Daso who said convict has been profiled and would be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action, called on the members of the public to avail the police with information about movements of persons with questionable characters.
