As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, parties across the country are stepping up mobilisation efforts while welcoming new entrants into their folds.
In Bauchi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Youth Ambassadors launched a nationwide sensitisation drive, urging Nigerian youths to register massively with the party and also participate in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking during the rally, National Convener of the group, Honourable Ahmad Shehu Hassan, declared that Nigerian youths could no longer remain bystanders in the country’s political affairs.
“Since 2023, inflation has hit families like a hammer. Food prices are unbearable. Nigerians cannot farm, travel, or even sleep in peace. This APC government promised renewed hope but delivered nothing. Our strongest weapon is our Permanent Voter’s Card,” Hassan said.
He described the ADC as a movement that would become “the most formidable opposition party” in 2027, urging young people to use both party membership and voter registration as tools to reclaim their future.
ADC National Youth Leader, Comrade Balarabe Rufa’i, formally handed over the party’s flag to Hassan, praising the “electric energy” of Bauchi youths and urging them to sustain the momentum until 2027.
Anti-corruption activist IG Wala also called on youths and women to move beyond tokenism and ensure capable leaders emerge from their ranks. “Do not sell your future for handouts. Reject drugs, pursue education, and prove this generation is ready to lead responsibly,” he charged.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Gombe, a recently retired Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Adamu, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adamu, who retired last month after 35 years in the civil service, picked up his party membership card in Dukku Local Government Area over the weekend.
The event drew a large crowd of politicians, groups, and community leaders. Adamu said his decision to join politics was driven by a desire to support Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration.
“The unprecedented developments brought to Dukku local government are visible enough to support the policies and programmes of the Inuwa Yahaya-led administration. I assure you of my loyalty to the party for its success in subsequent elections,” he said.
State APC deputy chairman, Baba Abuja, who received Adamu into the party, and other stakeholders described him as a man of experience and commitment, whose entry would strengthen the APC ahead of the next elections.
Observers say the moves in Bauchi and Gombe underscore the growing intensity of political mobilisation, as opposition and ruling parties alike begin to position themselves for what promises to be a fiercely contested 2027 race.
