Nigeria’s insecurity worsened in April 2025 as 590 people were killed across the country in 201 documented incidents of armed violence and conflicts, HumAngle tracker reports.
The report noted that 192 people had been abducted across 17 kidnapping cases, escalating a deepening humanitarian emergency.
The April Report, released on Monday, noted that the killings are a sharp rise from March’s toll of 369 fatalities in the country.
Regional Breakdown
According to the report, the North Central region emerged as the epicenter of violence, recording 50 incidents and 233 fatalities—the highest of any zone.
It identified Benue State as accounting for 97 deaths, the deadliest toll nationwide, driven by escalating communal clashes and armed raids.
Neighboring Plateau State mirrored this turmoil with 12 incidents, reflecting the region’s struggle with intercommunal tensions and banditry.
The report revealed that the North West, where banditry still thrives, has recorded 47 incidents, and 130 people have been killed.
Bandit strongholds like Zamfara have 12 incidents, 24 deaths, and Katsina has 11 incidents, 57 deaths. It reported that Kaduna and Sokoto had sporadic attacks.
Meanwhile, the North East, which has witnessed a resurgence of Boko Haram violence, recorded 129 killings in 37 incidents. Borno state alone accounted for 79 deaths in the region.
In the South, Lagos State recorded 15 incidents, which is the highest in a single state, leading to 21 deaths. The South-South and South East reported milder but persistent violence, with Delta and Ebonyi states recording 7 and 11 fatalities, respectively.
Kidnappings
The report disclosed that cases of kidnappings had surged in April, with 192 instances of abductions across 13 states.
Zamfara and Katsina dominated, with 75 and 64 abductions, respectively. Benue, Kebbi, Rivers, and Kaduna were among 11 other states reporting single cases.
WikkiTimes reports that violence has increased in the last few weeks, with multiple attacks in Benue and Plateau States.
Recall that Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, lamented the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in the state.
Similarly, on Monday, Boko Haram reportedly sacked a military base in Marte of Borno state and carted away with an unspecified number of weapons after killing soldiers.
