Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has offered solution to the perennial power problem in Nigeria which has rendered the North to a total black out for a week.
Abubakar said that the continued power outage being experienced in the North can be solved if state governments are allowed to have stake in power generation.
While lamenting the continued blackout, he said the continued electricity power crisis is a matter of concern to all, calling for urgent action to restore electric power to both Northwest and Northeast subregions.
In a tweet, the former Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said states ought to be given opportunity to generate and distribute power to themselves.
“There is an urgent need to remove the entire electricity value chain from the exclusive list and grant states the power to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity for themselves”, he tweeted.
He opted for utilizing energy opportunities in different parts of the country and the involvement of private investors to invest in developing multiple green-field mini-grid transmission systems.
“Considering that energy opportunities exist in different parts of the country, our strategy should be a viable mix of renewable (hydro, solar, wind and biofuels) and non-renewable (coal, gas)”, he added.
