The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Katsina ahead of burial in his hometown, Daura, where he will be buried later today according to Islamic rites.
Bashir Ahmad, Buhari’s former aide on digital communications, confirmed the development in a post on Tuesday.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un! The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari just arrived home and will be received by President Bola Tinubu ahead of the burial later today in his hometown, Daura, according to Islamic rites,” Ahmad wrote.
Buhari died in a London hospital after a prolonged illness. He served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, following an earlier military rule from 1983 to 1985.
President Tinubu is expected to lead top government officials in paying final respects at the funeral. Full burial arrangements have been made as hundreds of families, friends and associates flocked to Daura.
