The International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria will unveil its “Book of Infamy,” a new publication documenting cases of media repression and press freedom violations in the country, during its 2025 Annual Conference and General Meeting (AGM) slated for December 2–3 at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a joint statement by the President of IPI Nigeria, Musikilu Mojeed, and the organisation’s Legal Adviser, Tobi Soniyi.
This year’s conference is themed “Addressing Media Repression and Safeguarding Democratic Accountability in Nigeria.” According to the statement, the event will convene more than 100 key stakeholders, including media executives, journalists, senior government officials, media freedom advocates, and academics.
A major highlight of the two-day gathering will be the formal launch of the Book of Infamy, described as an accountability tool designed to expose individuals and institutions involved in harassing, intimidating, arresting, or violating the rights of journalists and media organisations.
The publication spotlights public officials, security agents, private actors, and organisations whose actions undermine press freedom in Nigeria.
The conference will also feature the induction of new members into IPI Nigeria, further strengthening the organisation’s network and its commitment to defending media independence, promoting ethical journalism, and advancing democratic governance.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mojeed said the conference offers “a vital platform for assessing the state of media freedom and journalists’ safety in Nigeria; discussing policy and legal reforms to strengthen independent journalism; and fostering dialogue between the media and government on transparency and accountability.”
He added that it will also provide opportunities to share global perspectives and best practices on protecting press freedom.
The AGM, scheduled for the second day, is an exclusive session for IPI Nigeria members and will focus on reviewing reports from the Executive Committee, assessing organisational progress, and shaping new strategies and partnerships to enhance journalists’ safety and press freedom.
IPI Nigeria held its inaugural annual conference last year, and the event has quickly become one of the country’s most significant platforms dedicated to advancing media rights, democratic accountability, and professional excellence in journalism.
