The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has grantedfull accreditation of courses at the Bauchi State College of Nursing and
Midwifery.The courses are Nursing, Midwifery and Community Midwiferywith 100 percent, 75 percent and 45 percent indexing capacities.
The Provost of the College, Hajiya Rakiya Saleh whointimated Governor Bala Mohammed on the development, said the attainment of fullaccreditation with 100 percent indexing capacity by the college impliesincreased number of students to be indexed by the council.
She said the development will reduce financial burden on thegovernment, describing it as another milestone achieved by the administrationof Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed considering the fact that similar collegesestablished for many years are yet to attain such as progress.
“Your Excellency, you may wish to be informed that theaccreditation team that included the Secretary General of the Council conducteda resource verification assessment of the college and were very much impressedwith the remarkable support received from your administration.”
According to her, commencement of the 2 years CommunityMidwifery Program will strengthen Primary Health Care Services and assist inreducing maternal and infant mortality and morbidity caused due to the shortageof midwives at the grassroots.
Hajiya Rakiya Saleh said when the college graduated itspioneer set of students, Bauchi State will have access to increased number ofindigenous nurses, midwives and community midwives who will join the teemingpopulace of frontline health workers serving in various health facilities inthe state.
The Provost attributed the successes recorded in the collegeto the quick interventions of Governor Bala Mohammed and the high levelcommitment towards addressing the acute shortage of health and manpower.

Hajiya Rakiya Saleh reaffirmed the determination of themanagement of the college towards training competent and innovative Nurses andMidwives who will play an outstanding role in the dynamic healthcare deliverysystem.
Governor Bala Mohammed who expressed appreciation for theaccreditation of the courses in the college, reassured of his support to ensureeffective service delivery.
