Dr Aliyu Usman Tilde, Bauchi State Commissioner for Education has dismissed one Malam Usman Baraza, a retired director who is on contract with the ministry for soliciting and collecting kickbacks from boarding school principals after a supervision visit.
Mr Baraza was re-engaged by the Bauchi State Ministry of Education after retiring. “He was brought out of retirement out of compassion for his plight given that he has many young children,” a source at the ministry told WikkiTimes on condition of anonymity.
He was, however, made to be part of the Bauchi State Boarding Schools supervision team. As soon as he spotted gaps in a school, the next thing he does is extort the concerned principal to bury his detected woes.
“Mr Baraza used to collect money from principals after visiting a school with the commitment that he will cover the lacunas of the concerned principal,” he said.

The former director who was trusted with the responsibility of supplying Gari to the 31 Bauchi Boarding Schools, was alleged to have been shortchanging the ministry in supply.
“Where Mr Baraza is expected to supply 50kg of Gari, he will end up supplying only 35kg,” a development that condemned boarding school students to starvation and hunger.
Speaking to our reporter, Mr Auwal Isah Kafi, Information officer Bauchi State Ministry of Education confirmed the disengagement of Mr Baraza but was short of words over why he was shown the exit door after coming out of retirement.
