The Gombe State Police Command has announced the arrest of a councillor and a village head in Akko local government area for alleged theft of a community transformer.
Muhammad Majidadi, the village head of Garin Majidadi and Abdullahi M. Panda, a councilor representing Kumo East, all of Akko LGA are accused of stealing and conniving to sell the community transformer.
According to ASP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe, the arrests were made following credible intelligence received from the Akko division.
The stolen transformer, which was recovered from Garin Majidadi village, was allegedly sold for N1.5 million to Bello Ardo Kumo.

ASP Buhari confirmed that the transformer has been recovered and that investigations are ongoing.
He assured the public that charges would be filed upon the conclusion of the investigation.
However, in his defense, Muhammad Majidadi explained that the transformer had been non-functional for over a decade, with essential parts already stolen.
He stated that after consulting with the community, a decision was made to sell the remaining parts to fund borehole projects. However, he was apprehended during the sales process.
Abdullahi Panda denied authorizing the sale, claiming that he had instructed Majidadi to wait for formal approval from the district head.
