Jigawa State has so far gathered over N1.4 billion emanating from state governments, private and corporate bodies as support to the victims of the recent Majiya tanker explosion.
This was announced by the state Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs, Youths and Sports, Hon. Sagir Musa shortly after the Executive Council Meeting, Chaired by Governor Umar Namadi at the Government House Dutse.
He said that the Council has acknowledged the receipt of N1, 448, 900.000 as support to be extended to the victims and families of the deceased by various individuals and organizations.
He said other decision reached during the meeting includes supporting the victims with large Foodstuffs consignment worth N60,000,00.00.
According to him, the approved foods items to be procured and distributed the victims include rice 25kg, millet 10kg, maize 10kg and spaghetti 1 carton for each of the families of the 210 deceased and those who were hospitalized.
He added that the family of the victims will also be supported with the sum of N200,000.00 in addition to all medical expenses settled by the State Government.
The Council has also extended its heartfelt appreciation to all who have offered their condolences and support following the incidence.
Similarry, the council approved the sum of N3, 554,642, 554.46K as a counterpart funding for 1-4 quarters of 2024 UBEC/SUBEB.
The funds will cover the construction of 304 classrooms, renovation of 514 classrooms, construction of 27 school perimeter fence, procurement of 29,984 sets of classrooms furniture and 646 sets of teachers’ furniture to be distributed across the state as well as construction of 4 block of basic science and computer laboratories.
Similarly, the Council has approved the release of N354,715,772.25 for the construction of city gates at Andaza, Karnaya and Laraba in Dutse Metropolis as part of the beautification in the State capital.
