The trio of Suleiman Bello, Auwalu Muhammed, and Yakubu Muhammed are to die by hanging for allegedly killing one Audu Saje [of Manda village] and kidnapping Hadiza Abdullahi of Marma village, Kirikasamma local council area, Jigawa State.
Justice M. M Kaugama, the presiding judge of the High Court of Justice No. 8 sitting in Kaugama, Jigawa State sentenced them after finding they were guilty. After killing and kidnapping the victims, the culprits were also said to have demanded N150 million in ransom.
During a raid at the defendants’ hideout, three AK-47 rifles, one GPMG, nine magazines, 309 live ammunition, N2,070,000, and a Boxer motorcycle belonging to the late Saje were found in their possession.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Kaugama said the prosecution by the state Atorney-General, Musa Adamu Aliyu had proved the offences of criminal conspiracies to commit culpable homicide and armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms against the three defendants.
He said: “The Prosecution led by the Honourable Attorney-General of Jigawa State Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu had proved beyond a reasonable doubt the charges against the three defendants.”
The defendants were convicted of all charges except for abduction and theft because they were not proved against beyond doubts.
