NUJ appeals to security agents to Consider Journalists as partners in progress

Bauchi State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appealed to governments and security agencies in the country to consider journalists as partners in progress as well as give them the enabling environment to discharge their constitutional responsibility.

The NUJ made the appeal in a statement signed by its Assistant Secretary Kabiru Garba and issued to newsmen in commemoration of International Day to end impunity against journalists.

He said the council reiterates its resolve to stand with all law abiding journalists in the state who have been practicing the profession according to its ethics.

” It was in recognition of the far-reaching consequences of impunity, especially of crimes against journalists, that the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution at its 68th session in 2003 which proclaimed 2nd November as the International Day to End Impunity for crimes against Journalists (IDEI). The Resolution urged member States to implement definite measures countering the present culture of impunity”.

” While assuring the determination of the council to stand by its members, journalists are therefore advised to strictly abide by the ethics in the course of their duty”. He stated.
