The Misau local government council in Bauchi State has said that it will relocate the flood ravaged Rigar Rafi village of Akuyam ward to a safer area.
Salisu Hussaini, the council chairman, disclosed this in Misau, explaining that the decision followed the total displacement of the community after heavy downpour that lasted for several hours.
WikkiTimes reports that many communities in Misau and other LGAs in Bauchi have been submerged by flooging since the beging of August.
The chairman who said the whole village has been affected by the flood, assured that his council will appeal to relevant authorities to collaborate and come to the aid of the victims.
“The people are now taking shelter in a primary school here in Akuyam. We have been there and saw the level of damages. All their houses, animals and farmlands have been flooded. Even though no life was lost but the people are devastated”.
“It has been occurring year after year, so we have asked them where they want to be relocated, and they agreed. So, we are going to look for a place in Akuyam town and relocate them”, he said.
He appealed to the victims to consider it as an Act of God, saying that many parts of the local government and the state as a whole were affected by flooding.
