Locals Injured, Properties Razed in Niger Communal Clash

A number of locals were injured in a communal clash between two rival groups in Doko town of Lavun local council, Niger State.

According to reports, a house including farm produce worth millions of naira were razed in the clash. Residents told Daily Trust the clash was over a land that has lingered for decades. It, however, resurfaced Tuesday evening.

The victims were said to have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Bida for treatment.

Residents called on the state government to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the series of lingering land disputes in the area to allow free farming activities, especially as the rainy season begins.

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesman for Niger Police Command, confirmed the incident, saying six persons were injured as other valuables were damaged.

“However, the police command swiftly responded and mobilised to the scene while 19 suspects were arrested in connection with the clash,” he said.
