The Nigerian Legionnaires Wives’ Association, LWAN, has restated its commitment to continue to seek for sustained supports to wives of retired soldiers in the country.
The National President of the Association Hajiya Fatima Idris Danjuma made the pledge while addressing wives of retired soldiers during an inauguration of Kano excos of the Association held at legion office, Kano.
Hajiya Fatima Idris who lamented the condition of wives ofretired soldiers in the country, appealed to relevant stakeholders to key inand support their wives and children.
“It’s unfortunate that after spending years to secure and protectthe Nigerian people, our retired soldiers and their families are languishing inabject poverty.
“Any society that does not take care of its veterans and theirfamilies is sending a very dangerous message. “We are telling the younger onesthat there is no reward in serving and protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.”Fatima emphatically stated.
The President vows to sustain advocacy campaigns across nookand crannies of Nigeria to galvanize support for wives of fallen heroes andtheir families.
Fatima however called on relevant stakeholders to supporther campaign, which she says will reinvigorate the spirit of veterans andcurrent men in service.
In her remarks, Agnes Oliver, Chairperson of theAssociation, Kano Chapter regretted that government had neglected many of theretired soldiers who are still energetic and willing to offer their support inaddressing the evolving insecurity in the country.
Agnes called on the Federal Government to actively engagethe retired soldiers to bring in their wealth of experience and rid the countryof the current security comatose.
