Thieves have burgled into Darul Hamd Jumaát Mosque, in Danbare area opposite of the Bayero University Kano new site and stolen properties worth over two million naira.
The suspected thieves got access into the mosque Wednesday when its custodians were fast asleep, carted away solar panels, inverter, computer and other accessories.
Confirming the incident in a telephone interview with WikkiTimes, Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Abdullahi, a member of the Mosque committee, said it was shocking how the thieves got access into the mosque without being noticed by the people around.
According to him, there are at least four individuals that usually sleep in the mosque which are assumed to be securing the worship facility.
“It happened last night; you know it rained and the temperature was cool. What surprised us is that there are four or five trusted individuals that used to sleep in the mosque, they are known by the committee, but up to now we didn’t find out how they burgled into the mosque without their knowledge.

“Are they deeply sleeping that they crossed without waking them? They just wake up for Subh(morning) prayer and discovered that the items are missing. The mosque door is made up of metal, how could they burst the door without waking them? Besides we didn’t hear anything of physical confrontation between the thieves and the custodians, how could this have happened?” wondered Dr Abdullahi.
According to him, the items were purchased from over two million naira contributed by the community. He said one of the stolen items was recently bought at two million naira before what he describes “as condemnable act.”
Dr Abdullahi clarified that the custodians of the mosque are trusted individuals, but they exhibit elements of negligence on their part that this can happen without the knowledge of any of them.
“We have reported the matter to the police, the vigilante groups are also coming. This is something that we can not let go free”, he added.
