Gunmen Invade Ondo Church, Kill ’50 Worshippers’

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Sunday, invaded St.Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, killing 50 worshippers and leaving others injured.

WikkiTimes gathered that worshippers were attacked during the church’s service.

A source close to the area said the gunmen stormed the church and started shooting sporadically.

He said the incident caused pandemonium in the area as residents in the neighbourhood fled for safety.

Chief Medical Director (CMD) of FMC, Owo, Dr Liasu Adeagbo, said many medical personnel have been deployed to cater for the injured persons. “It is still too early to speak on the issue,” he said.

But a nurse who pleaded anonymity said there was a shortage of medical staff to attend to the victims of the disaster.

As a result of that, many of the victims were referred to private hospitals, according to her.

However, there are blood-donor campaigns ongoing on Twitter. WikkiTimes gathered that the medical workers have called for kindhearted citizens to donate blood for the dying victims.
