In the Sagamu area of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, a group of protesters expressing their discontent with the scarcity of the naira, the country’s currency, have set fire to two bank buildings, PREMIUM TIMES reports.
The incident occurred recently and saw the Keystone and Union bank buildings being engulfed in flames.
Although residents looked on as the buildings burned, it was believed that they were empty at the time.
The demonstrators, who were also protesting the lack of petrol in the state, went on to create bonfires in different parts of the roads in the area.

The unrest in Sagamu followed a similar protest in the Mowe-Ibafo area of Ogun State a few days earlier, where protesters blocked the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in a demonstration against the difficulties caused by the ongoing scarcity of the naira.
As a result of the violence, businesses in Sagamu were forced to close. Those who had opened their shops before the incident quickly shut their doors.
