Kaduna State Internal Revenue Agency Seals MTN, Other Masts Over Alleged N5bn Task Debt

The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service has sealed off six telecommunication masts belonging to the giant African Telecommunication network, MTN  and others over alleged failure to settle outstanding N5.8 billion tax liabilities.

The agency said it sealed the masts due to huge tax liabilities as established by the state Urban Planning and Development Agency (KASUPDA), adding that the action is in line with its drive to attain the N120 billion target earmarked by the state governor, Uba Sani.

Justifying sealing off the telecommunication masts, Zakari Jamilu Muhammad, Head of Corporate Communication in a statement via agency’s X handle, said their action is in line with powers vested to the agency in Section 104 of Personal Income Tax Act.

“In a bid to attain the revenue collection of N120B as earmarked by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kaduna State Uba Sani for the year 2024. Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service in exercise of its powers vested in it by Section 104 of Personal Income Tax Act, has sealed up the following masts, due to huge tax liabilities as established by Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency KASUPDA”.

“The established tax liabilities for the above Masts telecommunications companies is N5.8 Billion”, it said. 

According to the agency, the sealed masts include MTN mast (IHS) – Tafawa Balewa Way Unguwan Rimi, Kaduna, GLO Mast- Shehu Laminu Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna and MTN Mast (IHS)- Surami Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna.

Others were MTN Mast (IHS)- Etsu Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna, MTN Airtel, Glo, 9-Mobile Masts ( ATC) – Nagwamatse Road, Kaduna, MTN (IHS) – Nagwamatse Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna and MTN (IHS)- Shehu Laminu Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna.
